📌 Trek Overview

Kedartal is a demanding high–altitude trek that takes trekkers to a stunning glacial lake at ~4,750 m, resting below the towering peaks of Mt. Thalaysagar and Bhrigupanth.

The route includes steep climbs, rocky sections and scree slopes, making it suitable only for experienced & physically fit trekkers. However, the dramatic mountain scenery and remote Himalayan setting offer one of the most rewarding trekking experiences in Uttarakhand.

🌟 Trek Highlights

🚗 Base Town — Gangotri

The trek begins from Gangotri temple town, with initial acclimatization along the Bhagirathi valley.

Route:
Uttarkashi → Gangotri → Bhoj Kharak → Kedar Kharak → Kedartal Lake

⏱ Travel Time — 6 to 7 hours from Uttarkashi

📅 Trek Itinerary — 7 Days

Day 1 — Dehradun → Gangotri (3,100 m)
Drive via Uttarkashi • Temple visit • Short acclimatization walk • Overnight stay

Day 2 — Gangotri → Bhoj Kharak (3,780 m)
Steep trail through pine and birch forest • Cliff-side sections • Camp near tree line

Day 3 — Bhoj Kharak → Kedarkharak (4,270 m)
Gradual climb over rocky terrain • Wide alpine campsite with views of Thalay Sagar

Day 4 — Acclimatization Day at Kedarkharak
Rest, hydration and short altitude walks • Essential preparation for higher elevation

Day 5 — Kedarkharak → Kedartal (4,750 m) → Return to Kedarkharak
Steep moraine climb • Reach the glacial lake below Thalay Sagar • Descend to lower camp for safety

Day 6 — Kedarkharak → Gangotri
Long descent via Bhoj Kharak • Return to base

Day 7 — Gangotri → Dehradun
Return drive via Uttarkashi • Trek concludes
